What career is right for me?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: career fashion merchandising

I am 22 yrs old and I have had to take time off from school, but I am going back this fall. I have not been able to pick a career and stick to it. I have considered nursing but I think I would become to emotionaly involved with the patients for one and a lot of things that nurses have to deal with kind of grosses me out. I have pretty much stuck to thinking about the healthcare field, but I need some suggestions. I have also thought about fashion buying or merchandising or human resources. I enjoy helping people but it is also important that the career pays well. I don't want to have to stress about money all of my life, please help!

I stongly believe that you have to go with whats in your heart. I'm actually having the same problem as you are. I'm 27 and confused. We have so many people in this world in certain professions just doing it because the money pays well but, they are not happy. Thats how come we get poor customer service and things like that. They are not happy. I cant really tell you which career to choose, but i do want to say to follow your heart. Nursing does pay very well, I have a friend in nursing but it packs alot. The things you will see and experience are tough. Fashion is good as well. I believe there is good in all things. Stay strong and pick the right path that is good for you. Good luck. At least you have time. I'm almost 30!

Interested in fashion design?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: career fashion merchandising

i would like to pursue a career in either fashion design, fashion merchandise or fashion journalism, but i hear its competitive and the pay isn’t very high. Any advice in this field?

for awhile i wanted to pursue fashion design-but there are so many schools that offer it, and to be honest not everyone makes it big

I began taking high school classes at the fashion institute of technology in NYC. I learned so much about the field and other fields surrounding it. FIT also provides an Accessories program (bags, shoes) with much less people, although it is very hard to get into b/c it is limited. FIT is the only school in the country with Acc. Design, so chances of getting a good job is much higher.

i begin the acc. design program in the fall and there are only abt 20 people in the entire major. i think thats pretty cool.

hope this helps

my hope for a career in fashion design!?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: career fashion merchandising

I am a junior in high school, and an aspiring fashion designer. I am not completely sure if I want to be a "designer." but so far that sounds the best, I love to sew, I just don't know If I would be doing that much sewing. My future goal is to start out by opening a little boutique titled "Chimmer" a play on my last name and shimmer, and then hopefully go on to do bigger things in the industry. I was wondering if this is a suitable career for me. Is it difficult to get into the industry? Some colleges that I was thinking of attending are: Parson (NYC) and FIDM (LA). How difficult is it to be accepted into these schools. I am an average student, mostly As and Bs with a few Cs and maybe one D. I have taken fashion design 1 and 2 and fashion merchandising 1 and 2 already in high school. I was also in an FCCLA fashion design competition last year where I won a gold metal at state and am in the same competition this year. I am an editor of the school newspaper, in French club, and National Art Honors Society. I am currently taking 4 art classes and have already taken 2 others. Next year I am planning on taking AP Studio Art. My grade point average is 2.8/4.0. Is this enough to get me into those schools? Also, are there any other colleges that you would recommend, or any other job related to fashion?

Thank you for your answers
Madison

I am not in the fashion industry or anything, but my friend she is in the fashion industry and she works for Citizens of Humanity or Seven for all Man Kind and such and this is what she told me.
She told me that you need a proper education, you have to study design(Sorry but I dont know for how many years)
She also said it isnt easy unless you know someone in the fashion industry that could help you get started by interning or something. That is the easiest way of getting in the fashion industry. And if not,you can still get into the fashion industry as easily by just looking to your teachers and school administrators or even an aqquaintance you walk by every day for class.
For internships
Sadly you are not paid for the internship but that should not really matter all that much I guess if you have a great passion for it.She said that you are usually in design, marketing or production if you are interning. But,education isnt that important than the actual work. You have to have education to find an internship or something but other than that like resumes and such, its all about the work experience.
Show that you want this and it is your passion and all, remember motivationn!
ALL THE INFORMATION THAT I GAVE YOU UP THERE IS SUPPOSED TO BE TOWARD COLLEGE STUDENTS WHO WANT A CAREER IN FASHION,not High School Students.I just wanted to give you a heads up,of what you might be expecting or something.
Well my friend went to this college(for fashion of course)
http://fidm.edu/index.html?cmpid=sem-brand-fidm
And she said that her career sky-rocketed and she got great reccomendations and such.I dont know about the grade-point average or anything to get into that school. But if you search around and explore the website, maybe even go on campus someday it will probably help.
I hope I helped and Good Luck on your dreams.
And Happy New Year '09!

i need help with my career in the future?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: career fashion merchandising

ok.. i'm taking liberal arts just for now until i'm decided whether i want to go into business or medical field. Now i wanted to be a dentist before, after that i want to be pediatrician, and then now i want to take fashion merchandising becuase i love fashion and the only reason i'm was thinking becoming a dentist and pedicatrician was because they get paid a lot.
Do u think FASHION MERCHANDISING IS A GOOD CAREER??

Never choose the career for the money. If you do something you love, and do it well, you will have more happiness than money could buy.

What's the name of the career of the people working backstage in the Victoria's Secret fashion show?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: career fashion merchandising

Hey everyone, I'm in college and trying to get into the fashion industry. I don't wanna be a designer, I would do it as a hobbie but I'm more interested in fashion shows, direct the show, choose the models, prepare the stage and work backstage telling the models who'll go next, etc etc but I'm not sure what that's called! What would I have to study in order to do that? I was thinking maybe fashion merchandising but I'm not sure. I'm looking to start in a diff university by august 2008 so if you know any cheap cool schools in Florida or some other state let me know! Thanks!
Well I actually do like the Hills but I wanted to do this even before the hills came on. But I do wanna do that, work for a company like that and do what Lauren and Whitney do, that would be awesome!

In the theatre world we call them techies. They do not choose the models i believe the designer of the clothes chooses the models they want to use but don't quote me on that. There's different kinds of techies. There's lighting designers there's master electricians, stagehands, set designers etc. No one person can do all that they would go mad so you would have to choose which one you'd like to do. Most of the time in a technical position you would have to stick with that venue/theatre so you wouldn't be doing JUST fashion shows you'd also be doing plays, musicals, dance shows, concerts, and comedy acts as well. So if it's something that you REALLY want to do then it sounds like Technical Theatre is your best bet.

What should I major in for this Career choice?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: career fashion merchandising

Your Question
Best degree for this career? read details please?
I want to be a buyer for Macy’s .. Dillards.. Belks.. etc. What should I major in? Business or Fashion Merchandising? Or something else. Please help!

Fashion merchandising would be the most direct route to this kind of job. It’s a competitive industry, and you’ll be better off if you go to an accredited university than to some fashion career school. That would allow you to take some business courses, too, which can only help.

Try to get an internship when you’re in college, working for one of these stores, so you’ll have a bit of work experience in buying before you graduate and also references.
