WHat are good four year fashion design colleges?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: fashion colleges

SO far im looking at Pratt, Parsons, and F.I.T.
if you dont know much about this please dont answer saying like “oh idk my friend goes to fidm”
any others that i should look into that is either in NYC or LA?

I would definitely recommend F.I.T. in ny. I am from ny and i know a couple of people that went there. The school is competitive though. As you might know, CUNY and SUNY schools are getting tough to get into like the UCs now. At F.I.T., you can get an associates and then apply to enter into the Bachelors program and they have a masters program as well. Also, I have been to pratt because its right around the corner from my house and it is a beautiful campus and it is competitive to get into also. Pratt is way more expensive than F.I.T. If you like the programs offered at F.I.T. and are a NY resident, I would say that F.I.T. will be the best bang for your buck! Definitely go and visit the schools and see if you would fit in there. There is a school in LA that Lauren off of the hills went to and I have a friend that wants to go there. I forget the name of the school but it is a 2yr program and its like 40k a year and it is very intensive because they combine a 4yr program into 2 yrs.but good luck in fashion school!

What are some good colleges for fashion design?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: fashion colleges

I know a couple but I'd like to know some more and look them up. Thank you very much :)
I already know Parsons, FIDM, and other top schools. I want to hear names of unknown schools. haha

I believe the best is Parsons College of Fashion Design on 7th Ave, in NYC.

A lot of top designers went to that school.

Do major fashion design companies i.e. DVF prefer designers from fashion design colleges or universities?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: fashion colleges

I am looking as to which school I should go to next year but am unsure as to whether major designers like Marc Jacobs, Dolce and Gabbana, and Yves Saint Lauren (basically high fashion designers) prefer designers working under them to come out of technical design colleges like Parsons and FIT or universities.

A fashion education is great for getting your foot in the industry and getting a first job. But forget working for Dolce and Gabbana or YSL, your chances are slime to none no matter what school you go to. Getting the high end jobs is based more on your previous work and talent, not the school. You need to be good at networking, have the right contacts, be at the right place at the right time. Its all about reputation.

But go to the best fashion school, like parsons or fit, if you can, its a good start to getting a good reputation. But it definitely won’t guarantee you a high fashion job.

(I’m sorry if i sound so negative, but its better to get the reality check now then at graduation.)
