How do I get into an Ivy League College?

I am in 8th grade so I am a new lump of clay to mold.

I am in a Math class above my grade level (in Algebra I) and am on the track to Honors English.

I am interested in the Social Sciences, Pre-law and possibly, Fashion Merchandising or something fashion-related as a major.

( If I decide on fashion; it will be more like “How do I get into Parson’s”)

To get there you would need to start working hard from now onwards. Keep your grades up and don’t think that since it is fashion modeling, that you wouldn’t need to do good in other subjects. To get into a college, you would need to do great in all subjects. Also, have a lot of hobbies and do a lot of Volunteer work. It helps a lot. Nowadays, colleges isn’t just about doing well at academics, but also doing well in your extra-curricular activities. Whether it is playing an instrument or playing a sport, just do very good in what you are going to do. You would also need a lot of volunteer hours in you high school year, but you can start now! Whatever you do, be important, stand out. Be a leader of the group or a founder. I hope this help!

What would be a ballpark number for average monthly sales for a start-up fashion boutique?

I'm majoring in fashion merchandising and I'm taking an entrepreneurship class. My teacher said my sales estimates were unrealisticly high, but I tried to explain to her how I came up with the numbers and she didn't want to hear it she just told me "bottom line is you have to lower your numbers."

My other problem is that at the beginning of class she told all the fashion students that she knew nothing about the fashion business. According to her, I shouldn't expect sales of more than $3,500 for one month. She said that's the range for ALL start-up businesses. That's barely enough to cover then rent for the boutique not to mention inventory costs and any employees. I think that's extremely low.

The boutique would sell at bridge prices tops $40-$80, jeans $80-$150. Can anyone help me figure this out because I'm going to get a bad grade because she will not reason with me. I took retail management doing the same stuff and got an A, but this teacher is completely confusing me

Not quite enough information here for me to finish your homework for you, but I'll try and help a bit. Mark is absolutely right the demographics of the store's neighborhood are a major factor, right up there with the foot traffic as well as other competitors. The main question I have is, how big is the store?
Small, well run stores may gross 1000.00 per square foot and that's about the top end in my opinion. I have a furniture store, the national average for furniture stores is 200 per square foot. Because my store is much smaller than a regular levitz say, we are able to do much better. I would venture to say the smaller the space the higher the sales per square foot. And remember, that's sales per square foot per Year. good luck

please help me come up with a storyline?

Ok so as a project in my fashion merchandising class we have to come up with a theme for a fashion show. My partner and I came up with the idea of a girl dreaming of a different world full of desserts. The categories in the fashion show would be cookies, cake, candy, and ice cream. Now all we have to do is make up a story to go with it. Basically, what will she do in the dream? It has to be a sort of story that we can tell during the fashion show but it doesn't have to go into too much detail. Does anyone have any ideas?

Um..She'd just go to school like normal but then, she realizes that things seem to be a bit off but shes like "Well what the heck?" so she's going to do a fashion show but justs ends up at cookie land and in the end, its all a dream lol

If I wanted to be a fashion merchandiser/marketer, would a MBA of (ACCOUNTING) be a good major?

Hi. I'm doing a little research on the career I want to pursue later in life. Certain schools don't have fashion merchandising so I'm guessing Master of Business Administration be a good choice. But it's always MBA of (Accounting). Does accounting matter that much in a MBA degree? And since I want to be in fashion merchandising….would you consider going to California for college (I'm in St. Louis) and what college would you consider in California for my major? I'm asking because I think that California would be a good place for me to have a jump start to my career. Plus after attending a university I'd have to go to fashion school. And most of the good fashion schools are in California or New York. My sister is in Cali so I guess it would be good for me to go there. But the MAIN THING IS: I have to get my parents to let me go there. So I was wondering what college and classes I should take and how I should come to my parents about letting me go to California for college.

Both of my sister's went to San Fransisco's Design college…… And are VERY successful. One is a marketing director over at Caltech.

Nowadays – it doesn't really matter the major… And MBA in ANYTHING can get you almost anywhere…….

hi, i'm 19yrs old…part time student at a community college, and i work part time at a retail store. i'm starting community college this fall. i live in california, usa. i'm very very very interested in fashion design….i'm very passionate about it….in fact i want to be a fashion designer, and i draw designs/sketches….i had also taken a fashion merchandising class 2 years ago…and my fashion teacher told me that i had lots of potential by looking at my designs, and that fashion designing is sumthing that i should pursue….my goal is to hopefully own a fashion boutique in the future…i would absolutely love to work with the fashion power houses…for example, chanel, gucci, prada, versace, etc….that would be a dream come true for me!

i was wondering about getting a fashion internship…how do i do this, plz help me, cuz i'm clueless….

and how do i get myself noticed?

Qualifications are important, but don't think you can't do anything until you have got them. Your youth is important…and if you have a portfolio now but think you have to wait until you are 27 to submit it…it is less amazing because you are not 19 anymore.

In other words a 10 year old who can tell you the Magna Carta was signed in 1215 is significantly more noticable than a 20 year old who can do the same thing.

If you want it bad enough you will find it rather than asking others to do so for you. I'm not mean so here's some help:

Internships for Gucci, chanel, prada, versace, etc…are on the INTERNET just like jobs for any other company. Honestly, everyone wants to be a fashion designer, and many have talent…but few people make it.

…if you can't get into (or afford) one of the top design schools (where they will connect you to the right people), go to business school and major in marketing…you will be much more attractive to industry head hunters if you don't have the right connections to begin with.

Marketing drives all fashion…if you have a degree in marketing AND your talent…that is one less thing the label will have to hold your hand through…and you will be a rare catch in a pool of wannabe interns.

lastly, don't wait for people to notice you…make yourself visible. Submit your theories and sketches/designs to journals…YES academic journals that deal with fashion, design and marketing thereof (yes they exist…ask your librarian)…

Why do people think I'm stupid because I'm a Fashion Major?

I'm a fashionista! I live and breathe fashion. I knew I wanted to be in the fashion world since I was little. But when I tell people I want to major in Fashion Merchandising/Fashion Design in college they say sly things like "that's not a long term career choice", or that "its a useless field". I went to a very science/math high school, and I was in the only fashion class. And a lot of people didn't belive that I wanted to major in that in college and my father, he wants me to be a doctor. I told that I would probably have hundreds of malpractice suits. Not everyone is meant to be a doctor, lawyer, or an engineer. This is what I love. Fashion is a big deal, it not just a superfical fad. Fashion has a lot of history, science, psychology, sociology, etc within….
BTW-I'm just gradauted high schol in June and I start university in August
Fashion isn't stupid. I'm not pretentious, and I have a 132 IQ. I graduated high school with 3.7 average. I come from a strict Carribbean household and I wasn't allowed to bring home anything lower than a B

Honestly just IGNORE them
Really you know what you are interested in and go for it
You can be successful no matter WHAT you do it's just how you do it.
Trust me I've seen people with the weirdest career and they're very successful
I think it's very important to follow what you're interested in as a career than what's more likely to be successful.
But honestly right now in the 20th century …everyone is very open about everything so… it's not traditional anymore like only doctors, lawyers…etc can be successful.. not true anymore.
If you're interested in something you'll naturally work harder and concentrate on where you want to go with it then forcing yourself and not be happy.
If you do go for a career like doctor, lawyer..etc. It is always risky that you might or might not be successful because sooooooooo many people are wanting to become that area and if it's something you're not truly interested you might not fight for it as bad as those people who do.
A lot of people don't see the use in creativity …without creativity our life would be really boring and ugly. Of course creativity is important in live… so many people are becoming interested in fashion. There are so many jobs for people who are interested in fashion like a fashion designer, fashion magazine, putting outfits together for celebrities or just people..etc. Watch project runway lol.

hello.

anyone here a current student or a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM)? i'm starting this july at the LA campus. i'd like to know what to expect from maybe the teachers, classes, and the assignments or anything else i should know.

I'm not a student there but just a word to the wise that the website is '.com' which means 'commercial' or for-profit. Please be wary of for-profit schools as they are out to 'make a profit. Well I would like to go to The Fashion Institute of Merchandising and Design in San Franisco and i'm still in High School, and I was wondering if there is any specific classes I should take to get into that school?

If your school offers classes like Fashion Technical Drawing, Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, Clothing,Textile and Design, and any related art classes.

what classes would be good to take in high school?

My friends sister actually majored in Fashion Merchandising. She took art, english**, and we had a fashion class at our school. She also worked on the yearbook and communications (ie, graphic design, photography etc). It all depends on what your highschool offers. Check out the courses that the program requires at the school you want to attend or even ask you guidance councellor. Good luck.
