Which fashion school would be the best to goto?

I want to study Fashion Design when I leave school. I live in Northern Ireland and this will require moving away because there's only one university/college in Northern Ireland that does Fashion Design and it's a shit course. The 3 schools I am currently thinking about are in London, California and New York. The schools are:

• American InterContential University (AIU) – London
• The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) – CA
• Parsons The New School For Design (Parsons) – NYC

Which one of these schools would be best to goto? I'm sooo stuck with this choice. I was also concidering:

• Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) – NYC

But I don't think I'll go there because I can't say I know anybody that actually made it in the fashion industry that went to that school except Daniel Vosovic but I think he only made one collection and gave up.

Three of the best fashion schools in the world are in the cities you're considering. They are Parsons School of Design (which you have on your list), the Fashion Institute of Technology (both are in NYC), and Central Saint Martins (that's in London.) Those are the elite of the elite. Parsons and FIT, especially, are very strong and well respected.

FIDM is big and well known, due to its exposure on tv, but it is not well respected in the industry. AIU as well, I am not loving that school. Those two schools market themselves well. They've got flashy ads. But they are not well respected in the industry. That's not to say you wouldn't go places if you went there – if you have a strong portfolio and do good internships, you very well could – but if you went to a place like FIT or Parsons, you'd have a head start re: power of the name, connections in the industry, powerful professors, networking and etc.

Kent State is also a strong fashion school. If you want one in LA, the strongest there is Otis College of Design.

The very idea that no one who made it in the industry came out of FIT… I want you to have another look at the list of alumni from FIT. Those who went there and made it in the fashion industry include Calvin Klein, Norma Kamali, Marisol Deluna, Carolina Herrera, David Chu (Nautica), Leon Max (Max Studios), Nanette Lepore, and many, many others. Just because their students get hired into the elite fashion studios, rather than going on reality tv shows, does not mean that they aren't successful. I'd say it's the reverse – they're able to make it in the industry without having to go on reality tv shows. FIT has an 85% placement rate into the fashion industry. That is flat-out amazing, for that field.

Have I talked them up enough? :LOL: I just fear when someone says they'd pick FIDM over FIT because FIDM has more successful alumni. That's far from the truth.

What do I need to Teach?

I have a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Fashion Merchandising with a minor in Journalism. I am interested in teaching a course in Costume History. What sort of credentials do I need to teach at a community college, part time?

In many cases you will need to have a masters degree of some sort to teach on the college level. If I were you I would call the college or university you are interested in & ask for the department that your course would fall under. Then ask if they have any adjunct positions or would be interested in adding a course related to your field of interest. If you are an adjunct professor then the requirements are often less stringent.

Western Kentucky University or Tennessee State University?

I live close to both actually,and my gpa is good enough for either of them.I want to go to a good school of course,but at the same time I want to live a good,fun college life.My major will be textiles or fashion Merchandising,which they both have.Which school do you think is better?

My friend graduated from WKU and he thought it was the most boring school ever….My sister and law attends TSU and she loves it, she's also doing good in her studies. TSU is a major party school and it's majority African American, so honey, you better stay as focused as you can, TSU don't mind partying!

Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising…?

I recently got accepted to FIDM and i'm very interested in the course I'm going to be taking Yet, I hear all bad reviews about the school. Many people told me that its basically what you make of it and that it isn't a good school that prepares you for the fashion worlddoes anyone know any information?

I have a friend who graduated from FIDM and she loved her experience there! Everybody has different experiences naturally, but she loved the teachers and the staff. She felt that her classes very much prepared her for her career in the fashion industry and says she doesn't regret going there at all.

What she personally likes about FIDM is the fact that the teachers here really prepare you for the field you're going to enter by continuing to work in their field of study. And that's great news for the students because that information in return gets passed down to the students!

I think that you're going to be happy about your decision to attend FIDM. It's a great school as you will soon find out.

Retail / Merchandise Management courses in Australia?

Would like to know the universities in australia which offers coureses in Retail management , merchandise management , fashion management , Brand management . Can someone pls help.

There are very few universities in Australia specialised specifically in those areas, but I would say that they most likely be included in either the management or marketing majors in Business/Commerce courses.

There are only 41 universities in Australia, all of them are fully accredited and they are tightly controlled, therefore the quality and recognition of their graduates are equal from wherever university you are studying from. The most important thing is you have to READ the course information carefully, since some courses may have the same name but different content.

To find out the course that you are taking and where it is offered, I suggest you to go to IDP Education Australia website (www.idp.edu.au). IDP is an organisation that gives information to international students who wants to continue their study in Australia. Once decided on the uni, fill in the application form and send it together with certified copy of your academic qualification (in English and original language). The process will take abt 2-3weeks, depending on the time of the year.

I want to study Business for my undergrad years. Hoping to get in to fashion undustry. USC, Pepperdine, FIT???

No all schools have a fashion management/merchandising course! so i decided to just get into business. now the problem is that im not sure of which schools. I am applying to FIT, but the problem is, i want the campus life, and FIT doesnt have that. My next top choices lie between USC and Pepperdine! I cant decide which school is best! i would like a school that is fun to party in, great education, great place overall. The career services are very important for me! I want to get into FAshion Buying!

USC, without a doubt. Pepperdine's reputation doesn't even come close to USC's–and USC has great academics AND a great social scene.

Fashion merchandising or newspaper critic?

I'm tring to make a desishons in what i want to do in college, and it is so so so hard, any way for now these two are my top ideas. I love to write, and i have sent a book out i wrote just 2 days ago, so i'm hoping to be picked up by a publishing house. but i still need to have a fall back plan of course. any way does any one know about these two, i would like to work in tv, or writting or fashon. I get board easly so i have to have a lot to do. Any ideas or info would be great. Thanks

Some majors that I would look into based on your interests are communications, journalism, fashion designer. But the best one that will guarantee you a good job right away is communications. You learn how to use certain technologies such as television and radio to "communicate" your ideas to the public. You get to interview people and write news articles and stuff like that. You can become a news reporter with this major.

How to get into fashion buying?

Im currently in the last stages of year 12 and really want to get into retail buying and specifically fashion buying or merchandising. Any idea on courses in QLD Australia? Or is there any kind of internship avalible for this kind of thing. Please help!

I don’t know about QLD but I expect its the same as everywhere else…
you can do a course at tafe on say fashion or retail my friend is doing that, it can even be counted towards your HSC… tafe is your best bet, there are a heap of courses avaible, soz i couldn’t help more…good luck with trials and HSC!!
