What is the difference between marketing and advertising?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: fashion merchandising jobs

I am going to look at colleges over vacation and I think that my dream job would be something to do with fashion merchandising or being like a buyer. I am not sure what major would be the best for this. I am thinking either marketing or advertising/public relations. Which major would help me with those career goals and also offer me the most flexibility in finding other jobs?

Marketing/advertising/public relations to be successful mastering these three is a plus. Bottom line what touches the heart of the majority of people in a way that they wont forget.
psychology courses are great to learn people and there desires and what effect them in a positive or negative way.

What do I need to do to become a fashion stylist?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: fashion merchandising jobs

could anyone give me some helpful info on how to become a succesful fashion stylist, what should I major in?
Would I have more of a chance by majoring in fashion design or merchandising and what are some renowned schools that what look good to an employer when applying to a job?

Or is the industry more based on who you know and not what you know?

Fashion is a rapidly growing field in general. I work in fashion design and I major in accessories design. The only really well known school I could suggest is FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) which is based in NYC but you can also do some more research online for schools in your own area or town.

what is the difference between a fashion retailer /fashion merchandise or a retail buyer?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: fashion merchandising jobs

and how much is the average wage for each job? does it depend on where you work and if so where or what kind of places would you be able to make more money from?

When it comes to money it is the designer that makes the big bucks. When you say "fashion retailer" understand what you are really saying is who is selling fashion designs, and the answer is all retailers like K-mart, Wal-mart, Macy's, and sure enough there are a number of boutiques, all pay minimum wages. Fashion merchandise, is the product it self, or are you really asking about merchandising fashion goods? This is a minimum wage job also. Retail buyer, this is a much better job to have, in a very small place this might only be just part of your job but in the bigger places the K-marts Sears, Wal-marts etc. this no longer is going to pay the minimum wage but is going to pay a salary and can be a good salary but most of the time this requires that you have a degree in business and have worked in the field for several years.
