Howard University Admission?

Fr the fashion merchandising degree program, the requirements are a 2.0. The only problem in the admission to howard are the transcript. i will have an acumulative gpa of 2.0, but i failed9th grade, and12th, so this is my 6th year, meaning,although i will have a 2.0 cumulativ gpa, the number of classes ive had to repeat, and the way the grades and classes look on my transcriptlooks horrible, especially for a 6 year period. Another thing is that i have ADD and was just diagnosed this summer, but im not classified for special accomodations, so im a regular student, but doing very well. Also i need 2 yrs of foreign lang., never took any at all. what i want to know is:
a. do i still have a chance of being acceptedat howrd?
b. how can i increase my chances, other than transcript and act scores?

Any students of the Fashion Institute of Technology Fashion Merchandising Program? I have some questions..?

..I don't really want to be a buyer or anything like that. I want to sell my own things one day and I thought the fashion merchandising program at FIT would give me a good business background and knowledge to start up my own business? What is really learned in the fashion merchandising program? am I better off sticking with business classes at a community school? Anybody who has gone to FIT for fashion merchandising i'd really appreciate any feedback, information, and opinions. Thankyou!

If you want to learn about the business side of the fashion industry, the FMM program at F.I.T. is a great program to get you well versed in each facet of the business side of the industry. You'll learn a little about everything. You'll learn about product development, licensing, buying, textiles, direct marketing, consumer motivation in fashion, market research, trend forecasting, and retail management. Like any other business, it's about numbers – this is especially important if you'd like to run your own business in the fashion industry. As an FMM major you need to be able to understand how the industry functions (creative side) and have an eye for innovation, but you'll also need to have good quantitative skills. My suggestion would be, for the first two years go to a community college and major in entrepreneurship management, and then continue your bachelor's at F.I.T. in FMM if you want to start your own business in the fashion industry. . . but in the FMM program you can take elective classes in "small store fashion retailing" and "starting a small business", which are courses specifically geared to teach you how to start a small business. Most importantly, take a look at the curriculum and read the course descriptions to see if the course offerings are to your liking. Take an accounting course as well.

Is san fracisco state a respected/good school?

my cousin told me they have a program for fashion merchandising…and I think I read something like that on their site..true? is it a good program? pros/cons for the school?

Depends. It's respected a lot for it's cinema department and it's diversity. There are other schools that are more prestigious for fashion and would look really good when you graduate, like the academy of art university in downtown San Francisco. AAU job placement after graduation is 93%. SFSU's fashion department isn't exactly a prized possession and only a handful of their grads ever get a great paying job in their field. I think the difference is because SFSU doesn't showcase student work, or push for excellence in fashion outside of the school. Where as AAU does and has an international following.

list of eligible majors?

heres the story.
i was at kent state, got kicked out for low gpa.
spring08 im going to tri-c ,and to get my pell grant that i have been offered for this semester i have to declare an "eligible major."
now i was a fashion merchandising at kent, and i plan on goin back into the same thing hopefully next year.But tri- c has no fashion or merchandising program so i chose "transfer other" for the time being…but i dont think this is eligible.

where can i find a list of eligible majors for a pell grant

I think the transfer major will be eligible.
You have to be working towards a degree or certificate and it can't be a continuing education program (like non college credit classes like hair braiding or something).
You might just double check you will still be able to get that Pell with a low GPA at your new school. Sometimes a low GPA can follow you to the new school and you might not get Pell there either.

Looking for a college with pre-med AND fashion?!?

I want to go to a college with my bff and im looking for Fashion Merchandising and she wants Pre-Med. What schools offer both these programs (preferablly on the east coast)?
[Edit] its mainly because she will only be 16 when we go to college and her parents are worried about her going to a school by herself and she would be more comfortable if we could be together!

While it may be difficult, you should go to the college that suits you best, not because your best friend is going there.

Maybe you could attend a college in the same city. NYC has Parsons and she could attend NYU, Columbia, etc.

Remember, part of college is expanding your horizons and meeting new people. There is no reason why you can't stay best friends and not attend the same university. But college can have a large impact on your future, so its best to make a wise decision that is best for you, not because you boyfriend or best friend is attending a specific school.

Their fashion merchandising program is good (I know several people who graduated and have excellent jobs), but it's not very hard to get in (the handful of people I know who went there are not that bright…)

FIT (fashion institute of technology) in NYC
and Pearsons School of Design (also in NY, very close to FIT and I may have botched that spelling )

Which path would u choose? A Fashion School or a 4 year university?

I have been a college student for the past three years but have only taken undergraduate courses, no courses related to my field. Well, maybe 2 or 3 courses related to my major. My major is Computer Science.

I have decided to change major. I want a degree in Fashion Design & Merchandising.

Do I drop out of college and attend a fashion school, such as FIDM, Parsons or Art Institute-California Design College or, do I transfer to a 4 yr univ. such as CSULB or CSUN, which offer Apparel Design & Merchandising programs as well?

In your honest, thoughtful and sincere opinion, which idea is better? Less costly?

My dreams are the following:
1. I want to open and run my own clothing store. I plan to sell clothing, shoes and accessories.
2. Start my own clothing line, which I will sell at my store as well.

Also, is Fashion Design & Merchandising the right major/degree/program for me?

Transfer to a 4 yr univ. such as CSULB or CSUN, which offer Apparel Design & Merchandising programs.

I have found universities offering Marketing as an MBA program but does the same course or a similar one exist in M.S. too … if so what are the universities offering courses like M.S Fashion Merchandising

i don't think there are coures like Fashion Merchandising or M.S.. The only thing that include M.S. is MS WORD,MSEXCEL,etc
