Do I have a chance to work in Nordstrom Sales Associate or H&M Visuals?

I really want to work at H&M in visuals or Nordstrom as a Sales Associate. I graduated FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) with an A.A. in Merchandise Product Development, and my experiences in the past were in a clothing store as a cashier, Assistant Manager for 2 years at Sanrio-which also involved some visuals, and a Manager at a food place, and a Temporary Designer/Sample Tracker, and also a sales associate at a painting shop. For anyone that worked at H&M in the visuals or Nordstrom as a Sales Associate. Do you see me getting a chance to actually be hired in the company?

Unless you go interview – no – another option is to go meet some people working in those locations and get to know them – then ask them to recommend you for positions.

What DEISGN PROFESSION should I go into?

I'm currently getting my bachelor's degree in visual arts and know that I want to be in design. I'm not sure what program I should take after my degree. I'm up for either another degree or a diploma program. I'm interested in interior design, footwear design, fashion design, fashion merchandising etc. I'm not sure which area is the easiest to get into/get a successful career in or which one would potentially pay the best for a realistic position.

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. Also, do you know any great schools in the US for the career path/program you choose? Thanks so much. I'm from Canada and planning on moving the the states to finish up school, start my career. I don't know a lot about American schools yet.

Interior design would seem easy and fun. All you have to do is find things appealing to the eye, and set them up so the room gives off a certain vibe.

So many majors, so little time?

I'm torn between so many majors for college. I would love to be a french teacher, french translator, be a fashion designer, be an economist, OR I want to study penguins in Antartica.

Animal Behavior/Ethology, Animal Genetics, Animal Physiology, Art Teacher Education, Arts – General, Biology, Commercial Photography, Commercial/Advertising Art, Design/Visual Communications, Digital art, Drawing, Ecology, Economics, Environmental Biology, European History, Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, Foreign Language & Literature – General, Foreign Language Teacher Education, French, French Teacher Education, Humanities, Photography, Sociology, and Zoology.

Which career should I choose?
Which major will bring me closer to my dream career?
Which is the most realistic?

Please help!

* Animal Behavior/Ethology, Animal Genetics, Animal Physiology,Biology, Ecology, Environmental Biology,Zoology

This group is heavy on the animal sciences – narrow the choice to zoology and cover all of this one.

* Art Teacher Education, Arts – General,Commercial Photography, Commercial/Advertising Art, Design/Visual Communications, Digital art, Drawing, Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, Photography,

This group is simply "art" — a BA or BFA in studio art with a teacher certification program would do all of this one.

* Economics, European History,Foreign Language & Literature – General,Humanities, Sociology

This group is part of the general education core of any Bachelor's degree program. Therefor either of the above bachelor's will include this group as well.

* Foreign Language Teacher Education, French, French Teacher Education,

not a bad compliment to a K-12 art teacher certification if you want to be able to find a good job.

Here's an idea:

Bachelor of Arts in Art with K-12 teacher certification, minor in French (with teacher certification there as a second area). Double major in Zoology or Animal Biology (a minor in the sciences sometimes takes as many hours as a major does) with secondary level teacher certification in "science" as well.

This would be about 6 years of undergraduate and would result in K-12 teacher certification in two areas (Art and French) and HS teacher certification in science. You would be an artist highly knowledgeable of science AND a scientist highly skilled in illustration able to work in French and English (diplomatic languages).

"study penguins in the Antarctic" is a master's degree sort of thing. Follow this pair of bachelor's degrees with a master's in zoology (or related) and do your thesis on the antarctic penguins. And, if you're honestly passionate about all of these areas – you might as well get a PhD and teach in college – this collection of skills should be very valuable to either an artist or a scientist. ☺

Most important – this set of interests will take time to develop. Don't be in a hurry.

Styling or Buying? Which is best?

Im not sure if i should do fashion styling or fashion buying. I would love to eventually work in a fashion magazine. If i do a course in Visual Merchandising, would this be a way to get into buying? Help?!

I think styling. Their are more opportunities when you show the world you can pull a work of art out of what someone else gave you to work with.

Wanting to emigrate to Australia…?

I am a 24 year old British man wanting to permanently move to Australia. I spent last year in the country on the Working Holiday Maker visa. I would like to return to Sydney to live and work.
My profession is Visual Merchandiser in fashion retail. There are no jobs in the skills shortage list which resembles the work I do.
As far as I can see, the only option I have is to study for two years (of which I could do a Diploma in Visual Merchandising in Sydney). However, this would only give me two years in the country and I am not keen on being a student again.
Ideally, I would be able to go straight into a Visual Merchandising job in Sydney (which there appears to be plenty of from my research). Is sponsorship an option? If I somehow managed to find a company willing to sponsor me, would this be enough to get me into the country, and what would the financial implications be for the sponsor and myself?
I have thoroughly checked through immi.gov.au but find the mass of options confusing.

OK… you've checked immi.gov.au, how about come to the Australian High Comm directly and speak with one of the staff there? I am sure they are willing to help you with the options for your situation.

What degree do i need to teach art?

I have a diploma in fashion design majoring in visual merchandising, but i want to teach art. What's the right degree course that i should take.

In most cases, you need a teaching degree/certification from your state. You can do that through a local college/university or an alternative certification program. Then, to teach art specifically, you will need a certain number of colllege credit hours in that field… usually it is around 30. Some of your other design courses will likely count for that.

What field in collage is for airbrush designer?

Which one there are more but these were some i was thinking of ….Advertising, Animation, Apparel Design, CAD, Computer Design, Design, Design Management, Desktop Publishing, Digital Design, Drafting, Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, Film/Video, Game Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design, Media Arts, Multimedia, Painting, Photography, Visual Communication , Web Site Design… ext…

I think you would be best off with a general graphics program–Design or Graphic Design. When I was in college they didn't even have a major that focused on air brush and that was 25 years ago when airbrush was more prominent. They did have several airbrush classes, but with the introduction of computer graphics, I bet you are going to be hard pressed to find too many now days.

I would stick with a basic design major and see where you can pick up some airbrush skill outside of school.

Try:
To obtain a position with career potential as a buyer or visual merchandiser in the fashion industry.

You don't list the school you attend (who cares which campus?)

Make sure I don't lead you to say anything untrue. More verbs, fewer nouns. Stress the visual arts experience

Move the course list off the resume (highlight it only) and attach a transcript if necessary. No reason not to list core classes if relevant.

What's your GPA and why isn't it on here?

Any career ideas for someone who is creative?

I have a Fashion Marketing degree that I have never been able to do much with. I worked in retail for years and I didn't like that. I tried to find jobs in Visual Merchandising and that didn't work either. I can draw. I am artistic. Any ideas? I guess there are too many starving artists in the world. I have been working in an office for 4 years now. I am thinking about going back to school. What would I major in. I don't want another degree that I wasted money on.

Can you draw people?

Maybe you could keep your office job for a while, and be a carricature artist for a few hours on the weekends. When you got good, you might even make it your main career. While doing the carricatures, you could even have some sketches of fashion designs or jewelery designs out – who knows, you might go in that direction.
